Confused about what colleges want in an application essay?
Not sure what to tell the college entrance board about yourself?
Looking for Practical Processes for Writing Your College Application Essay?
My own teen resists writing (despite having a parent-teacher who is an award-winning author and writing teacher), and he has to write a college application essay this year. So join us as we walk through the process while using the rhetorical canon to write a compelling essay.
My first term at college, I had to complete a 1-credit library research course, an independent study that taught me to use the university's library system.
The librarians provided worksheets for collecting citation information, but at some point I realized that although the worksheets were helpful, they were incomplete.
I hated going back the library to find the missing information!
When I was a grad student teaching research writing for the Department of Rhetoric, I recreated those worksheets and taught students how to use them while they completed their literature review and other writing assignments.
And given the nerd that I am, I had the students use the style guide specific to their major, so I had to learn MLA, APA, Chicago, and CBE!
Now as a believer, I incorporate God into every writing process, my own as well as every class that I teach.
He wants us to be successful, and He gives wisdom to all who ask!
