Schemas are core beliefs, how we see the world, how we see others, and how we see ourselves. They are created while we grow up and are a mechanism for our brains to keep us safe. 

We will only see proof of our schemas and will always try to defend our core beliefs. 

Enneagram shows us that not everyone sees the world as we do. (Highlights relation between core beliefs and enneagram)

It’s not the event. It is how you interpret the events that happen around you.

When things happen, step back and consider and analyze your thoughts, feelings, and actions about the situation because that will lead us to think and act in a certain way.

How things happen to us depends on how we interpret the situation.

Everybody’s life is full of challenges, and that’s the human experience. That’s how we expand day by day.

You just don’t jump into Gratitude. You have to feel what is happening.  Then, analyze the experience to choose and feel gratitude in your life.

3 STEPS TO CHALLENGE CORE SCHEMAS:

  1. Attention, becoming aware of your thoughts. Use an app like Voice Memo to create a Thought Record of what happened and your behavior, including thoughts, feelings, and actions. Look for patterns.

  2. Look for alternatives; explore and be curious. Give yourself permission to be open to new perspectives. 

  3. Analyze your behaviors because those behaviors will support a healthier way of thinking and feeling. What’s working? What are other options?
